Two Ghouls

All the fun I used to have as a child at Halloween has now morphed into a delightful experience when doing a Halloween layout. The adorable AUTHENTIQUE "Glowing" patterned paper collection was a treat to work with! The title, "Two Ghouls" uses MAYA ROAD'S "Jonathan Mini Alphabet" chipboard, RANGER/TIM HOLTZ Distressed Crackle Paint (Spiced Marmalade) and STAYZON INK (Jet Black). If you haven't tried the Cut-N-Dry Stamp Pad Foam, also by Ranger/Tim Holtz, I highly recommend that you invest in a sheet. It is well worth the money, makes inking easier, more controllable, and seems to last forever! Check out the Tim Holtz Alterations "Townscape" that made a creepy looking neighborhood for this layout!  

Embelishments used include, MAYA ROAD's Organza Mum Trim (Pumpkin) and Ruffle Blossoms (gold and turquoise), PRIMA Cabachon Sculpture Resin Flowers by Donna Downey. Also, notice the Grunge Board Elements flourish "Harlequin" by Tim Holtz and Authentique's Dictation and October Afternoon's Mini Market Stickers (Black & Cream). The little bottle caps are by Spare Parts and the black buttons are by Jenni Bowlin. After placing the picture inside a bottlecap I poured Crackle Accents by Ranger over the tiny picture, and let it dry for a few hours. 

The potter kneads, throws and molds the clay to make it into something it wasn't before he laid his hands on it. That is the way I think of paper. I like to work it in ways that make the piece interesting and give it texture. I am always thinking of ways to "mold" the paper into something that it wasn't before I touched it. In this layout I tore, fussy cut, rolled, inked, painted hand stitched and machine stitched the paper.

Trick or Treat

This is a layout that I did for THE CRAFTY SCRAPPER Design Team....What a "treat" it was to work with the AUTHENTIQUE "Glowing" collection! The colors are bold  and true to Halloween tradition. I added a hint of green to the LO for a splash of gooey grunginess! The paper is easy to punch and run through my CUDDLE BUG, along with the TIM HOLTZ/SIZZIX Alterations "Twigs", "Paper Rosettes" and "Mini Paper Rosettes". The title and story tag are also by AUTHENTIQUE. The "BOO!" tag is part of the lovely "Halloween 2011" collection by JENNI BOWLIN. Other products used are Jenni Bowlin "Vintage Buttons" (orange), STAZ ON ink (Jet Black), RANGER/TIM HOLTZ Distress Ink (Peeled Paint), and last.... but NEVER LEAST is a sweet little green PRIMA "Avon Rose". 

Some paper altering  techniques used in this layout are tearing, punching, folding, inking, die cuting, hand stitching and machine stitching. 

The sweet little girl in the photo is my darling daughter, Elizabeth....when she was eight years old.

YOU MAKE THE WORLD A BETTER PLACE

This "Soar Butterfly Chipboard Album" by MAYA  ROAD was such a joy to create. The AUTHENTIQUE "Uncommon Collection" with a bit of MY MIND'S EYE "Lost & Found Two" were a perfect blend of papers. The title by My Mind's Eye, is called,"Lost and Found 2 Blush". This little mini album is on display at THE CRAFTY SCRAPPER....if you live in the Dallas Fort Worth area, be sure to swing by and check out my FAVORITE SCRAPBOOK STORE....EVER!!! 

The "Tulle Pleat Trim" coupled with  the painted "Alterable Wood Bluttons"  made a lovely little flower to adorn with  "Heart Trinket Pins"....all by MAYA ROAD 

Look at the new "Gramma's Doilies" by Maya Road!  Also used in this mini album are the following paints: Craftsmart Acrylic Paint (white) Making Memories (Strawberries and Cream),Tattered Angels Glam (Lipstick Pink) Viva Pearl Pen (Cream) and last but never least.....Stickles (Icicle)! 

The "Sweet Pearls" are by My Mind's Eye, and they are part of the "Lost and Found 2" collection. Check out the brand new "Coffee or Tea Mini Chipboard Set" and the "Butterfly Chipboard Set"! They were great to paint....very girly! 

Each of the little chipboard butterflies consists of two pieces....I used the solid butterfly as a back and the cutwork butterfly on top of the other. There are several shapes of butterflies to choose from. Also, on this page, check out the "Vintage Findings Beaded Centers". I think they're absolutely delightful to use on mini albums or layouts! 

The Hugs and Kisses (XOXO) border punch is by Martha Stewart and it seemed PERFECT for this project. 

It wouldn't be an album by moi' without lots of Prima Flowers!

Mrs. California Sunshine

It was a real treat to work with two lovely product lines at THE CRAFTY SCRAPPER. The paper is called "Et Cetera" by BO BUNNY and most of the adorable embellishments are by MAYA ROAD. The bright and  sunny "Small Organza Roses Ribbon" in yellow was the centerpiece for this design and the colors were worked around this sweet, sweet ribbon. Other Maya Road products include the "Noah Mini Alphabet Chipboard Set", "Winter Roses Houndstooth Licorice" flower, and a "Wood Mini Spool". The black paint used for the title and the Scrap FX chipboard set of clock hands is by Making Memories. 

Techniques used in this layout are paper punching, rolling, pleating, inking and machine stitching. 


The layout is in honor of a wonderful friend of mine who lives in California. We have so very much in common, and although we've never met in person, we are sisters of the heart! Scrapbooking brought us together! 

BIRDS OF A FEATHER

This little mini album is one that I've worked on for quite some time, as I would get the pictures that I used. All of the photos were taken from our kitchen windows from January thru June, 2011. Since I retired two years ago, I have had more time to develop a small area where we can feed and enjoy watching the birds who visit our yard. What a treat it is to see our little feathered friends enjoy the bird seed that we provide for them! Most of our little avian friends are shy and I have to be very patient in order to get just one picture! There have been some days when I have placed a blanket on the floor and I sat there waiting to get a good photo! This little album probably should be titled, "Two Loves" because it combines my love of birds and my love of scrapbooking! 

One of our biggest surprises was the  beautiful  female Red Bellied Woodpecker who frequented our suet feeder during the winter! Our second surprise was discovering that we had two species of woodpeckers! On the page below, can be seen the a female Hairy Woodpecker. 

I have spent hours and hours researching the birds that have delighted us this year.  My  wonderful husband gave me a book called, Birds of Texas by Keith A. Arnold and Gregory Kennedy. I have also used a website called "All About Birds" and is created by the staff of The Cornell Lab of Orinthology, Cornell University. Both of these sources have helped me tremendously in my bird studies. Here's the website for "All About Birds":

It took five months for me to get a picture of a Carolina Chickadee! They are delightful little birds who flit from place to place with such dexterity that their flight is similar to dive bombers! You have to be REALLY FAST and have a fast camera to get a good picture of one of these sweet little creatures! 

We had a very large flock of doves this year, and have actually counted up to ten at a time feeding  outside our kitchen window!  These two doves are always together. The one on the left is a White Winged Dove and the one on the right is a Mourning Dove. The  White Winged Doves have been rapidly expanding their territory into the northern areas of Texas. 

This is one of our many Blue Jays that come to our feeding area daily. 

This is one of the male Cardinals that came to our yard over the winter. There were a total of three males and three females! Only one of the couples is still using our feeding area. He is very watchful over his mate. Whenever there is a person in the back yard you can hear him giving a little warning sound and they both fly away. In the spring we could sit very quietly on our patio and they would sometimes get accustomed to our presence, allowing us to watch them fly from one tree to another.  

The journaling reads, "All birdies are welcome at our "nest!"

These little Juncos were "frequent fliers" in our yard throughout the winter, but when summer came, they didn't return. 

What is this squirrel doing stealing birdseed?!!!! Doesn't he know it's "for the birds"? He and two other squirrels have kept us entertained since we started feeding the birds.

Spring Blooms Chipboaard Album

This little chipboard album was a delight to make. After applying the gorgeous Basic Grey patterned paper , I used a flat white acrylic paint around the edges to give it a shabby chic look. Then, I used a marker to draw the stitches around each page.

The lovely embellies added such a sweet touch and made a beautiful setting to show off the photos. 

You're Sew Special

This LO uses Jillibean pattern paper, and lots of fun Maya Road shapes from the “Still Sew Cute Chipboard Set”. In the area around the picture I used Maya Road Maya Mists (Granny Smith Apple Green) and a Tattered Angels Glimmer Screen to create the oval frame before adding the picture. Also spritzed with the Maya Mist was the Mini Triangle Banner Canvas Pieces which are also by Maya Road. For the title, I used Maya Road (Jonathan) Mini Alphabet Chipboard and October Afternoon Mini Market Stickers over a Maya Road Coaster. The Martha Stewart Punch Around the Page “Loops” set gave an old fashioned look. Also included was a little Jenni Bowlin Vintage Style (black) Button and a Maya Road Kraft Scroll Frame Journaling Tag. The chipboard pieces were painted with Ranger Ink Tim Holtz Distress Crackle Paint (Fired Brick). After the paint dried, I inked the edges of the chipboard pieces with Staz On Ink (Jet Black).

Some of the techniques that I used were border punching, painting, masking, sewing, inking and a little calligraphy on the journaling tag.
