Love My Fairy Garden Featuring Leaky Shed Studio

Hello everyone!  I have been working on a layout for The Crafty Scrapper Design Team featuring a sweet Leaky Shed chipboard frame and Bo Bunny's lovely Enchanted Garden Collection.

I have been spending a great deal of May and June in my garden, which I love doing. One feature in my garden is a Fairy Garden, which is something I have added to my "Favorite Things to Do" list. Miniatures have always been something that I like to collect and  share with friends, and Fairy Gardens fit perfectly into gardening and collecting miniatures.

A variety of techniques were used on this layout. Hand stitching took the greatest amount

    of time,   but I also embossed, stenciled, fussy cut, painted, inked and did some 3-D work.

This beautiful frame is from Leaky Shed Studios. I loved working with it and imagining where each part of the vine would twist and turn... in and out, creating the frame. The frame came to life using markers in colors that would work well with the color scheme in the papers. I started by coloring the entire frame a light green, then used a variety of darker greens to add shadows.

For the banner across the top, I hand cut each pennant, punched holes, stitched and inked. Last, I ran baker's twine  through the holes and popped it up across the top of the scene.

The Prima flower received a little ink to make it perfect for this fanciful scene. Also, I inked and stickled the letters LOVE. The American Crafts wooden butterflies were inked, embossed and tied with colored wire from my stash, and the alpha stickers are by Glitz Design.

Fourth of July

 Hi everyone! I have a layout to share that I did recently for The Crafty Scrapper in Waxahachie, Texas. AKA: my favorite scrapbook store, where I can buy the latest and greatest supplies and learn wonderful techniques through their classes.


Many of you took some great photos on The Fourth of July and want to scrapbook them. I have just the solution for you! The Crafty Scrapper has a fun patriotic collection by Doodlebug Design called Patriotic Parade. This collection is loaded with beautiful papers, stickers and embellishments. It is perfect for feminine, masculine, family or adult layouts.

First, I cut, punched and inked several strips of the gorgeous patterned papers from this collection and used a little Prima ink over a mask by Crafter's Workshop and let it dry. After that, I spritzed some Maya Mist in areas that would be seen and not hidden by the paper strips and photo. Then, I applied white modeling paste  by Liquitex over a Prima mask and let it dry. Next, I mixed some Maya Mist into  a bit of the modeling paste and applied it between the white zig-zags. It has the look of red and white stripes....only with a zig-zag pattern. After that, I used one of my Stamper's Annonomous stamps to emboss the background paper by Authentique.



The felt flower is by Maya Road and the tiny pearls are by Doodle Bug Designs. The ribbon is by May Arts and is also available at The Crafty Scrapper.

This little garland of stars, sticker and multi layered pinwheel stickers are by Doodle Bug Designs and are so much fun to use for adding texture and dimension to any page or card.

The border punch is by Martha Stewart and adds a nice touch to any page or card.

Just a little note here about the photo. I have had this photo of my son and daughter for about twenty-eight years, but never scrapbooked it because the background had a lot of brown tones. They didn't look very good on this, or any scrapbook page, so I scanned the photo, printed it out, then cut away the background. I was surprised at how well it turned out, and will most likely use this technique occasionally in future layouts.

Perfect Daydream

This photo is one of my favorites from a trip to the gorgeous Canadian Rockies. As I stood there, looking out onto Emerald Lake, I knew that it was going to make a beautiful photo, and it is one of the best in my collection. When I want to take a few seconds out from a busy day or need help falling asleep at night, this is one of the visuals I see from my most treasured memories. Recreating this stunning vision in a daydream helps me take my mind off of most daily problems that have come my way. The calmness it brings is needed some days more than others!



This is my creation for Case File 125 at Color, Stories, Inspiration. Paper

This layout was created as an entry in Case File 123 (challenge) at CSI. The colors were so yummy  to work with and I loved every minute of creative joy in the making of it!

For the scheme I used all five colors. For the evidence I used flowers, mixed media background, mistable elements (see the burlap that I misted, therefore changing the color from cream to turquoise), stamps and a border punch around the edges.  For the Testimony I chose to write it as a fairy tale. Also, I wrote the journaling in the background; directly on the paper.  



 Here is the journaling:

"Once upon a time there was a little boy who loved paper. He would create the most wonderful treasures by folding and creasing the paper. First, he started making paper planes that were sure to be faster than the air forces his friends made.

His parents bought him origami books and he would spend endless hours in his room creating cranes, tigers and dinosaurs. He would give his creations to his family, friends and teachers.

They were so impressed with his abilities that before long, everyone called him 'Paper'....and they all lived happily ever after."

 Below, you can see the spritzing, modeling paste work, stamping and embossing. Other techniques used were paper tearing and painting.

Having Tons of Fun

 

This layout was created for The Crafty Scrapper Design Team. It features my son Lee, as he was having fun at Universal Studios in Los Angeles.



 The chipboard shape with scallops was first painted, then inked with a brick design.

For this layout I wanted to make parts of it look messy.....just the way boys like things! I painted the buttons white and when dry, sanded them. Also, I used modeling paste and an empty prescription bottle to make the circles in the background.

  

Here, you can see where I crimped the paper, cut it into wavy shapes and inked it before adhering it to the background paper.

My Easter Style

My latest creation for the CSI Challenge....AKA  Case File No. 118. I always look forward to Fridays when the new challenge is revealed and delight in creating a layout according to the criteria set for us. Here is what we had to work with this week:

All five colors found in the scheme were used and I journaled about my style of decorating for Easter. Perhaps my years as a second grade teacher have affected me!

Evidence found here:

• a little metal heart that I painted yellow to go with the color scheme
• white background ....with a little black text thrown in
• doodling / pen work
• fabric
• fringe (curled paper, in this case)pockets

For fun, I added a little Easter grass. It wouldn't be Easter without Easter Grass strewn all over the house, now would it? 

Techniques used for this layout include painting, inking, masking, cutting and doodling.



My journaling is recorded on both sides of the first tag, and reads, "Being retired, I have more time for things that I enjoy. Decorating for holidays such as Easter is one of my newfound pleasures. Cheerful, soft sculpture bunnies on the sofa and tea cart make me smile. An Easter tree with eggs and more bunnies stand on the coffee table. A 'Welcome Spring' sign outside our front door greets guests. All of these things are my Easter Style, and I wouldn't change it at all. Happy Easter 2014!"

Echo Hills Farm Mini Album



This little mini album is a work of heart that I created for a challenge between the wonderfully creative ladies on The Crafty Scrapper Design Team.

The subject of the little album is Echo Hills Farm and a few of the experiences that I had  at my grandparents' place in the country.

My Grandmother never did like to have her photograph made, so I have abided by what I think would be her wishes. After the album is no longer on display at The Crafty Scrapper, I will insert another envelope with a few pull out pages showing  her photographs. Only my family will be seeing these.  

This pull out file was perfect for remembering the kinds of fruits and vegetables that were grown in Dandad's garden.



                           

There was a plethora of love put into creating this mini album, as these were some of the best days of my childhood.



The photos on this page were taken of me when I was just a few weeks old and later at about five months, being held by my parents. They were taken at the farm.



Here I am at two and then about nine.



I was taught to love animals and to be kind to them, at the farm. There were always numerous dogs, cats, horses, peacocks and ducks around. The little dachshund was my dog, Lady. On the two pages below, is a photograph of my beloved horse, Diamond. He was half quarter horse, one fourth thoroughbred and I'm not sure about the remainder of  his blood line.

There was never a lack of fun activities. I was always fishing for crawdads or for fish, riding horses, climbing trees, building forts in the hayloft of the barn, or just  exploring in the woods.

My grandfather was Sheriff of Tarrant County, Texas and later United States Marshall of the Northern District of Texas. Each year, he would have a barbecue at his farm for his law enforcement friends. The food was delicious and nobody enjoyed these gatherings more than me.

I have my father and mother to thank for saving these wonderful photos throughout the years. What treasured memories they represent!  

Techniques used were painting, inking, masking, embossing and doodling. Texture was added, using modeling paste and a stencil.

Products used for this project are October Afternoon papers and embellies, Maya Road embellies, Prima flowers and other finds from my stash.
