Sweet as Honey

Case file 200 at CSI was such a treat to create. I loved the colors and Evidence choices. How perfect for this portrait of Elizabeth when she was in first grade. This is one of her pretty little Sunday dresses that the entire family enjoyed seeing her wear. 

This layout is also entered in the Blue Fern Studio June challenge. 

The first thing I do after planning my layout is to use a stamp in several places around the central area. Sometimes I emboss the area where I stamp. 

Next, I splatter and or paint the same area. 

Last, I add a sprinkling of chunky embossing powder, and my background is complete and ready for embellishments and a photo.

The journaling reads, "The thing I loved about you the most when you were little was that you were as sweet as honey. You would play dress-up and cook for your dollies in your indoor playhouse. You loved God, nature, your teachers, being a Brownie, your family and your pets. You were kind to others and were a happy little girl. Although you usually had a smile on your face, your second grade teacher called you, "Princess Thundercloud" when you had a difficult day. Those days were few and far between, because of your sunny disposition. You were a good little girl and made your parents proud of you!"

Memories

I'm sure that for our son Lee, some of his most treasured memories are of summer days spent at his grandmother's home, so when I ran across this old photo, I knew it would be perfect for CSI Case File 203. 

Here is how I solved the case: 

Scheme: All five colors used

Evidence: dots, veggies, leaves, transportation, 

        wood 

Testimony: Journal about a childhood memory

The Imagine Ink Embossing Powder is divine! The process is quick and the effect is stunning! 

A few drops of color add interest. 

Stamping, then coloring with Gelatos here. 

With modeling paste and a stencil, I achieved much of my background texture.

The journaling reads, "What joy and bliss it was to travel three hours to Grandmother's home every summer! These memories stay with Lee as a young man now and I presume they will throughout his life. There was always plenty to do at Grandmother's. Lee and his cousins would go to interesting places like the zoo or the old train. They swam for hours at a time and played "Marco Polo" in the pool. There were always neighborhood friends to play with and when they went home there was quiet time with a comic book or a chapter book. Reflecting on the days of summertime at Grandmother's, it was the unconditional love she gave him that is most memorable and appreciated."

A Wonderful Life

It is difficult to believe that it is already June! Time flies when you're having fun  scrapbooking, right? Today, I'm sharing a layout for the CSI Design Team. 

Last month, my daughter and my mother went on a wonderful cruise together. They started their Cruise in Barcelona, Spain and ended in Rome. I will eventually  be doing layouts about their various destinations, but this one focuses on Monte Carlo, in the principality of Monaco. 

Come play along with us at Color Stories Inspiration....AKA CSI for this fun challenge. In the case file above, you can see the criteria for this challenge. Each color in the scheme must be used, three items from the evidence list and at least one of the journaling prompts must be included in the layout. 

One of my favorite techniques used in my layouts is heat embossing. Here, I embossed this lovely architectural element with embossing powders. Both are by Blue Fern Studios. 

Stamping, to draw interest to an area, is one of my signature techniques. 

Here, you can see a 3-D element and paint splatters. I use both of these as  go-to techniques frequently.

Using a diamond pattern in this layout seemed perfect as you see this same design element in Monaco's coat of arms. The photo below shows how I incorporated the same element in the background of this layout.
