EVER THINE

It seems like just yesterday that this portrait was made of me, as a student at Texas Christian University. My soon-to-be husband and I were dating and very much in love. How happy I am to say that we have now been married for thirty eight years and it doesn't even seem like ten years! This is the first half of two companion pages to celebrate our anniversary in May, 2012.

EVER MINE

This is my sweetheart. He is the wonderful man who means the world to me....even after being married for thirty eight years! He has the best sense of humor, is a hard worker, is highly educated, and is an all-round good man. I am so very lucky to have had the good sense to have said, "Yes!" when he asked me to marry him forty years ago.

OUR HISTORIC VACATION

Reading about a country's history in a textbook is a good thing. For me, seeing artifacts, touching buildings and reading documents has a way of bringing history to life. For twenty five years, I taught hundreds of children about the Pilgrims, Plymouth Rock, The Constitution of the United States, The Midnight Ride of Paul Revere, the patriotism and wisdom of Benjamin Franklin, Thomas Jefferson, John Hancock and  George Washington. I taught my students about the Declaration of Independence, our Constitution and the amazing  history of our great country. When I retired in 2009, I wanted to see the places that mean so much to us as Americans and that I had spoken of so many times in my classroom. I wanted to walk along the same places where our forefathers had journeyed and see some of the sights that they saw. In some tangible way, I yearned to experience the beginnings of our nation and soak in the history. In the fall, following my retirement  (when I normally would have been in the classroom, teaching about these great places and people of American history), my husband and I took a trip to New England. We went to Boston and saw the graves of many patriots, the site of the Boston Massacre and then to Concord and Lexington, to see where a band of normal, everyday farmers fired the "shot  heard 'round the world", as Ralph Waldo Emmerson wrote.  It was then, and only then, that the wonderful stories from history books truly came alive to me.

This layout was created for THE CRAFTY SCRAPPER design team using the No Limits Collection paper by HEIDI SWAPP and lots of fun MAYA ROAD embellishments. Techniques used in this layout were painting, masking, border punching, paper folding and machine stitching.

FUN IN THE SUN MINI ALBUM

Can you feel the Summer heat coming from this little mini album, created as a design team project for THE CRAFTY SCRAPPER? All pages were hand stitched, then adhered to the MAYA ROAD Landscape Binder.
Some machine stitching, and painting can be seen on the cover. For the little MAYA ROAD Canvas portion of the title, I used the Jonathan Mini Alphabet Chipboard Set as a mask and sprayed it with RANGER/TIM HOLTZ Adirondack Color Wash Spray, then later came in with yellow Stickles to fill in the negative space with some sparkle.

Paper used is the Sketchbook Collection by AMERICAN CRAFTS.

Dear Lizzy Crepe Ruffle Paper by AMERICAN CRAFTS is used throughout the mini album for a fun look. It is easy to use, as it is already pleated.

Each page was masked, using a hand cut piece of chipboard, then sprayed with Radiant Rain. For additional texture, and to add some love, I hand stitched the waves on each page. Don't the  SPELLBINDERS frames make the pictures pop?
Stone-Art by VIVA is easy to use. Just apply the sand paste, add shells and net. Allow to dry for a few hours. The gold specks in "Sand Gold" sparkle as if kissed by the sun!
