Refreshing

Hello scrappy friends! I hope that everyone north of the equator is staying cool in one way or another! For my friends south of the the equator, stay warm! Wherever you live, I think it is the perfect time to stay inside and do something wonderfully creative! 

This layout is for the Color Stories Inspiration Design Team and I loved working with the pastel colors against the black background! 

The paint splatters can easily be seen in the photo above. This is one of my "Go to" techniques for the backgrounds of my layouts. 

In the photo above, can be seen the layering I always use. To change things up a bit, I gathered and placed some Tim Holtz Tissue Wrap between the Blue Fern layers.

The seedlings and beads are added by painting 3-D Matte Gel where I want them on the layout, then I sprinkle the beads and seedlings over the same area and let them dry. When they have dried, I shake off the excess beads and smile!




The journaling reads, "Elizabeth and Kristin met while standing in line in front of a Greek sorority house during rush. Oddly enough, it turned out that they had almost identical rush schedules and were always next to each other at the parties so they became fast friends. As chance would have it, they both decided to pledge Alpha Phi and have been close friends ever since. Through thick and thin, finals, break ups, weddings and childbirth, Kristin has remained one of Elizabeth's cornerstones. Words alone cannot express how much this friendship means to Liz. This friendship is one of a kind and they love each other like sisters. These two ladies think their friendship is like a breath of fresh air!" 

Sweet on You

Hello scrappy friends! Come play along at Color Stories Inspiration. This is a scrapbooking challenge group where you can play along the "traditional way" and follow the prompts strictly, or you can be a little more laid back and discover you own interpretation of the case file. 

I always use the traditional method for solving CSI cases. Here is how I solved the case: 

Scene: All five colors used

Evidence: Wet medium, String, Musical

      Elements, Plants, and Metal

Testimony: I chose, "Write a dozen things about your topic." I wrote 17 reasons why I'm sweet on my husband, since we celebrated our 44th anniversary in May.

In this photo you can see the stamping/heat embossing, watercolor sprinkles, and use of a stencil and modeling paste.....all done on the background paper.

Here, can be seen the 3-D work, heat embossing on the chipboard and application of seedlings.

Sparkle

Hello scrappy and blog friends! Today I am sharing a layout about my beautiful daughter when she was thirteen. It was created for the CSI Design Team. 

Here is how I solved the case: 

Scheme: All five colors were used

Evidence: Stripes, decorative border, glitter, heat          embossing

Testimony: Inspiration Word, "Sparkle"

You can see the background work here. I stamped, masked, stenciled, painted and used beads and seedlings to add interest. 

Here, can be seen fussy cutting, 3-D work, die cutting, heat embossed chipboard and beautiful flowers that I applied seedlings to for a little sparkle.

Not the Finale

This is a bitter sweet subject for me. It is about our dear niece, Vona. She was a flower girl in our wedding and we loved her. Unfortunately, she passed away in late April and we, as a family,  are still mourning her.

Here is how I solved Case File 254:

Evidence: Stripes, hand cutting, leaves, branches

Testimony: I chose the following prompt from "Sunday Scribblings": Finale (I flipped it and titled it, "Not the Finale".

Techniques used were stamping, painting, masking, hand cutting, 3-D layering, distressing,  and heat embossing.

Here is my journaling:  

"This is Not the Finale. 

Vona Kay was the sweetest little girl. She was a flower girl in our wedding. Hack and I visited the Keeling’s when they lived in Mobile, and we slept in Vona’s room, filled with little girl toys, a doll house and a herd or two of stuffed animals. It was a joy to be transported back into childhood again. 

As time flew by, Vona transformed into a beautiful young lady. She earned her RN degree from Samford in Birmingham, Alabama. We were all so proud of her! Her patients and coworkers loved her for her compassion.  Soon, she met and married her sweetheart, Keith Davis. 

When Vona passed away at 51 years of age, her entire family was shocked and grief stricken. God bless you forever, Vona. We will miss you for such a long time, but we will see you again, sweet niece. This is not the finale."

Here Comes the Sunshine!

Hello blog friends! Spring has sprung and I think everyone is ready for some sun! This layout was created for the CSI Design Team, and what fun I had playing with this one! 

I used the traditional way of solving this case and was inspired by the cheery colors and reminded of the sunshine my two adult children bring to my life!

Testimony: Inspiration Word, "Shine" 

Here is a little close up of the central part of the layout, where the beautiful embellishments can be seen. 

I always think in 3-D for my layouts. Here, you can see where I fussy cut the beautiful Blue Fern Studios paper, then popped it up off of the base paper. 

My fun isn't finished until I use texture on the background. Here, I used modeling paste and a stencil to achieve my goal.
